And we are back with a vengeance.
Come and invest in Jordan we provide ample oppurtunities for investment with perks…
Yes come and invest in Jordan, where by the time you blink we will have charged you 3 million in various hidden fees and bribes (with no ground broken to show for it), and then we will keep on adding taxes, while the chamber of commerce does nothing and there is no communication between the government and the private sector (Who are repsonsible for more than half the countries income) and still they will tax you (yet giving away for free things that could have benefitted the country).
And then they will tryand pull a fast one and tax diplomatic missions representatives for bringing their personal belongings.
And then they will also make you pay penalty fines for their delays, o the list of mistakes and stupidity which has lost this country Billions.
Then comes this, a local company tries to make good and to do something good by modernising itself and the government bureaucrats pull this kind of shit.
I have said it once I will say it again:
WE ARE A COUNTRY SUFFOCATING AND DROWNING IN THE SEWAGE OF INEPTITUDE AND BURUEACRATIC NONSENSE.
SOME ONE SHOULD TAKE THE GOVERNMENT TO COURT THEM AND THE TAX DEPARTMENTS AND THE CUSTOMS AND EXCISES TOO, AND DO AWAY WITH THE ASSYERS DEPARTMENT, THAT OR THEY SHOULD HAVE THE RIGHT PEOPLE IN THE RIGHT PLACES NOT THE INOMPETENT FOOLS WHO LOSE THE COUNTRY MILLIONS UPON MILLIONS BECAUSE THEY CAN’T BE ARSED TO MOVE THEIR COLLECTIVE ARSE AND TO DO THEIR JOBS PROPERLY.
EITHER THE POWERS THAT BE KNOW OR THEY DO NOT, AND IF THEY DO NOT SHAME ON THEM FOR LETTING IT HAPPEN FOR SO LONG.
tHERE SEEMS TO BE A HUGE DISCONNECT BETWEEN THEM AND THE PEOPLE WHO ARE ACTUALLY WORKING AND THEY HAVE THE NERVE TO TURN AROUND AND SAY YOU SHOULD DO SOMETHING FOR YOUR COUNTRY.
SHAME ON THEM…
We have missed out on so many good business oppurtunities because we are drowning in bureaucratic sewage.
And our king is attempting to lure businesses to Jordan and it seems he is unaware of the mess the government and bureaucrats are causing behind his back while he is thinking all is well and the status quo is maintained.
Some one has to draw his attention by compiling a list of ALL the companies that came to Jordan and proceeded to decamp to other places, and the grants we lost due to bureaucratic bullshit.
I think if he got a list like that he would certainly know how to deal with it.
It boggles the mind that they keep on waffling on about enticing businesses to Jordan, yet (this shows the disconnect from the people and how far away from logic they are) the tax department, the customs and excise, and all other departments just keep on latching and grabbing on to things.
That’s what you get when you have professional idiots and by professional idiots I mean thos bureaucrats who cannot see their way around anything except what they are told and they follow it to the letter in illogical ways.
Example an NGO which has diplomatic status, was about to have it’s employees personal things taxed upon entering the country, SERIOUSLY! I kid you not. The tax department wanted to tax personal effects and they were admnant about it. THey kept on insisting until someone actually talked to the minister of foreign affairs and interior who in turn talked to the tax people. It had to go through the usual wasting of time Jordanian system of numptys until it reached the top people.
Okay forget that let us talk how Nestle was going to invest in Jordan but the ministry of trade and the ministry of planning kept boomeranging hidden fees at them that they moved to Syria and guess what in SYria they got water and electricity and facilities in less than 3 weeks, whereas they had been going back and forth for months in Jordan.
Then there was the representative of a well-renowned hotel chain who came here and before he knew it he had wasted 3 million+ in fees and under the table fees and he hadn’t even broken ground, then came the taxes the hidden fees and he was like screw this I am leaving and I am not coming back.
And that is just the tip of the iceberg, the corruption that has been running rampant in this town for years is insane, the Japanese phosphate company that is rusting away (but that’s okay we will be getting an Indonesian one or ?????) to replace it.
We have wasted resources, wasted time, the people who do not want to work in the governmental offices, we have the ridiculous tax hikes, and the insane prices that a normal Jordanian cannot afford.
And through it all we have people saying there isno problem here. WRONG ANSWER!
The Airport was mismanaged, contracts were awarded to companies to give grade A facilities instead they were replaced out with grade C and below stuff (here I am talking bathroom fixtures in the new airport) correct me if my information is wrong, I sure hope so.
The projects started never finished.
The anti-corruption ombudsman has his work cut out for him, instead of being allowed autonomy he is hog-tied by everyone, there are blatant cases of corruption but he cannot get at them. Ministers of planning and agriculture selling lands for a fraction of their worth to companies they are on the board of, and bilking the country of millions, the privatising of the electrical company for nto even a fraction of its worth to a bunch of people who happen to know some one who nows some one who knows some one, and they cannot be touched.
The insanity continues, and they keep on throwing up distractionary smoke screens so peole get distracted and do not face the real issues.
They want to build a nuclear plant on one of the most tectonically unstable plates, where we are waiting for and it isnot a matter of if but a matter of when the next big one will hit, so we are they steam-rolling it.
THe studies alone cost (allegedly) 20 million JD’s a year (yes that is right just the studies), and they are turning around and saying solar energy is not a viable option (this in a country with minimum 200 hundred days of sun), they are also saying that desalinisation is not a viable option (O really where were you going to get the water for your nuclear plant hmmmmm?) it isn’t cost effective (it would pay for itself within 2 years through farming and agriculture.
We have one of the most fertile lands the Jordan valley and the government is intent on punishing the farmers, the landowners are not allowed to register their worker for social security, the farming industry is being neglected and punished with ridiculous taxes, whereas the rest of the world that is where they pump the money to keep it afloat but like I said in a previous rant Jordanis an odd country where you have to do the opposite of what @normal@ behaviour would dictate to succeed.
I am not being unpatriotic, it is because I care that this makes me livid, the corrupt ones running around scot-free and with impunity and people kissing their asses, the dsystematic destruction of our economy (the almighty world bank and IMF dictated that we would have to have a tax hike or our currency would be devalued) I might have a naive simplistic view of things but hey I am a citizen and this is what I see.
THere are no excuses for the mismanagment this country has gone through with the revolving door governments and parliaments, it has been destructive the umpteenth degree, shameful really.
I say shame shame shame on you, shame onus for keeping quiet. And noI am not calling for revolution I am a monarchist but I am also not stupid (this last is directed at those who were extolling the virtues of the Jasmine revolution, well, How is that tasting now, I hope you are chocking onit), this country of ours has a lot going for it, but it needs some one to take that stand and say we will hunt you corrupt ones down no matter who you are (and this should be implemented by the powers that be) and no one should be above the law NO ONE. If you have misappropriated funds meant for the land you must be punished and punished severely and I am not talking about getting the little guys but the big ones.
I guess I am living in a fantasy world and I do not think it will happen not in my life-time
And with that Ileave you.
This is my truth now tell me yours……
* When I satire I mean it in the tragi-comic sense of the word, where one has to laugh at the state of affairs or one will lose ones sanity.
