About internet freedom in Jordan And the lack thereof.
I am all for freedoms but with freedom comes a certain responsibility. I find it atrocious that they try to curtail certain freedoms. Well the thing was that it was getting to be a free-for-all and out of hand, where rumours and hearsay were being spread like wild-fire and with no substantiation, so maybe the government interference wasn’t so bad after all (according to the government they targeted the sites which were not registered and therefore could not be allowed to continue since one of the internet laws was the one of liability and responsibility), the fact that even in published glossies self-censorship is going on to a ridiculous extent.
That said I am against censorship, and that move (blanking out 300+ sites) played along those lines so it made me wary.
The idea that they want to police us makes me worried but on the other hand it is also a marginal price to pay for stability. Sounds very anti-Arab spring doesn’t it, well yes in this case I am, because of the Arab spring the crap has hit the fan and now we cannot even retaliate against the Salafi’s and trouble-makers who are causing chaos in the land.
If military rule is what is needed for a short while to get them under control so be it, small price to pay. (We were under that before and the brotherhood did not dare to raise its ugly head of ignorance).
