Alone in a Crowd (An Endorsement for redmellow).

Hello Skinlovers!

I was reading a fellow bloggers new post ( ) So I’m not the only one. She writes about Body Dysmorphic Syndrome caused by advertising she was inspired by:

So I wrote this as a supplementary and an added thing to endorse and encourage her to do more of the same style. You go Girl! 😀

Let me start out with a paraphrased quote:
True business is selling people an idea to buy something they really do not need by convincing them that their life would be totally worthless if they did not possess it!

Well the above statement is true, so true Advertising companies have been selling us lies:
You need to be a stick insect that looks like a lollipop to be successful and happy.
You Stink so you need to mask you natural odour and smell like a flower garden.
Your breath is toxic so put poison in your mouth to whiten your teeth and be fabulous (read the ingredients in your average toothpaste and spot how many carcinogenic ingredients there are).
You are tooo fat.
You are too Skinny.
You need this pair of sunglasses/phone/ jeans/ etc.
You are old
You are NOT allowed to age.
You must put Poison in your muscles so you stay looking young (you might as well inject formaldehyde into your veins to preserve yourself) O wait you already have it in your bloodstream, from various products you are using! Whooops.

The list of do’s and do nots is endless, they keep on coming up with ways to undermine your confidence in yourself, they poison your thoughts. You are surrounded by Toxic images of unhealthy living being packaged as “healthy young and fresh” well it’s not.
By the way this doesn’t only affect girls, the first medically identified case of anorexia was a male all the way back in the 1800’s imagine that! 😀

So back to the rant.

How dare they tell us what we want, yes we can make our own decisions and choices but it’s pretty hard when we are fighting a battle against subliminal seduction and absolute corruption from all sides (look up the history of how Aspartame a poison became FDA approved for us to drink).
Those so called arbiters of taste and editors of magazines who get swag for free, who get paid sometimes to lie to you, they are offered free-trips to spas  truck loads of freebies whether it is clothes, cars, etc. (Abroad that is not in Amman, in Amman some editors fall into the trap of believing what they read and they further the lie, through no fault of their own).
It is so enticing and as a former beauty editor I can tell you I am and was highly bribe-able, but I would never endorse a product I had not tried out on myself first, and would definitely not endorse it if it didn’t do as promised ( I am like the EU, whose regulations on advertising is quite stringent, you cannot advertise something that promises to do a miracle without it being so), I do have some small form of professional ethics, I do not lie about products and treatments. I am that horrid girlfriend that will always tell you if you look ugly in a dress, or if that hairstyle really is not you.
But there are some unscrupulous people out there waiting and willing to take wholehearted advantage of your insecurities, and that is where informed decisions come in. DO NOT BELIEVE EVERYTHING YOU READ IN MAGAZINES. Thank God nowadays by law the magazines have to state whether an article is a “paid promotion” or a “promotional”, because in the old days they were masked as serious article in order to get you to buy said product.

Body Dysmorphic syndrome, it’s a disease a psychological disease that can lead to Bulimia, anorexia, excessive plastic surgery. It is when you look at yourself and a warped image is staring back at you and whatever you do to change that image it stays the same. You could be slim and yet you still see yourself as Obese. You could be stunningly beautiful andyet see yourself as a hag. And it takes many forms, it is treatable to a point, and at some point is is an incurable disease you have to be aware of and to treat with medication to stave off the symptoms. And in this part of the world it is becoming a pandemic.

It’s all about self-awareness and self-worth. NO ONE HAS THE RIGHT TO DECIDE FOR YOU WHETHER YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL OR NOT, AND MOST DEFINITELY ANYONE WHO MAKES YOU FEEL WORTHLESS SHOULD HAVE NO PLACE IN YOUR LIFE! A very simple rule to live by don’t you think. It sounds so easy yet it is so hard, especially in this society where everyone feels as if they have the right to comment and give their opinion on looks and such (hey I am guilty by association, but that is because IT IS MY JOB AS A STYLING IMAGE CONSULTANT), I do it all the time but I say to people I do not follow fashion I try to find a style that suits and enhances my clients maximum capabilities to be suave sophisticated elegant and refined, these are the key words. You would never see my clients in a balloon dress (who the hell convinced any woman that she looks good in a balloon? WTF), you will see my clients looking like real women, and you will see them as confident gorgeous goddesses, because that is what my philosophy is:Unleash your inner Goddess and be fabulous (sounds trite, but it works).

Youngsters today are bombarded with size double 00 (damn you Rachel Zoe), and that is an ideal impossible to live up to, size 00 became popular because designers were giving them to the stylists for free they are what we call sample sizes and in that case are easily tax deductible and can be written off the tax forms, and there you have it. Diet pills and such were given to the stars before the oscars in a few weeks and suddenly the ladies were all skinny! Yes  indeed “healthy living”…

So here’s my advice ladies don’t believe the hype someone is always going to try and sell you something, a dream of happiness or whatever but do not believe it.

I’ll leave you with this song:

Enjoy! Happy 2012 Make this year the one were you tell advertisers to bugger off! Your life will be fabulous if you don’t buy into their false crap! 😀

Thank you Descantia! I really appreciate it!

Another thing I should have mentioned was what most magazines, clothing and cosmetic industries would reply, saying that they do not want to promote OBESITY.
Women are not saying that you should promote obesity, you can promote some products and within a certain limit, you do not have to mention that if you have something like glasses on it would “steer guys away from you! No one likes a four-eyed girl! ” This is an example of what most magazines are showing, they make you feel bad about something in your physical appearance, and offer you a way to be “happy” by getting rid of it.
Why destroy people’s confidence like that?

    Loved the song.
Couldn’t get more subtle than that.

Loved this post, put things back in perspective for me. It’s so easy to get caught up in the endless diet stints and cosmetic frenzies that everyone seems to be following. Thanks for the much needed reality check 🙂 I’m just gonna keep my untamable frizzies and tummy bump as is. …might as well take advantage of the 1-year gym membership I impulsively committed myself to, though.
