Enter the year of the Metal Rabbit and kick the year of the Tiger to the curb! (Gosh darn it and fiddlesticks, my lovely friend Cherina pointed out that we are still in the year of the Tiger, and that the Rabbit doesn’t start until Feb the 3rd, Sorry my bad!)… 😀
After spending a night forming opinions (I do not judge that is too gauche), I forgot to mention was at a private party at my friend Maiks domicile his last new year in Amman (and he will REALLY be missed!).
I was looking around me and thinking. Nice kitchen! Well, to elaborate, I was at a party, and Me and several others had brought our Ipods (or oldpod as I call mine), and we proceeded to play some music, Bam Bam went first, and people started whining we want gaga, and the whining continued in the same vein until Bam Bam gave in and played Maiks playlist with Gaga!
All is well people are dancing, sounds like fun, right? SO WRONG! After the playlist caontaing said gaga songs was repeated for the 5th time, I stepped in and put my oldpod on… And now I know people in Amman are Lemmings, I tell you true, I played various songs and remixes of dj’s and tracks and I felt someone invading my personal space and screaming in my ear we want gaga play some gaga, something pop, something Arabic! Okay the Arabic I have nothing against but I threw a fit when I heard they wanted Gaga (I love Lady Gaga, but when it is on constant rotation even I get tired of it). Here’s the problem, the Lemmings can’t and won’t dance to anything they don’t know and can’t sing along too, they really can’t! Their world would shatter into smithereens if you tried to get them to listen to anything else!
So there I was debating whether I wanted to ram my fist into somebody’s face (mind you I was completely sober, and I think that is what saved said person’s arse from being whipped), then I said it is New Year laissez Tomber, so I retreated to the kitchen, and stood there holding court while people were being rowdy in the sitting room. THat’s when I was saying nice kitchen, and it is, I remembered the New Year before which was completely different more people, more mixed. The quality of people this year was to say the least odd, there were the ones high on god knows what acting as if it was a rave (to Arabic music nonetheless!) shirts off cracks showing (eeew)…
Anyway I digress, standing in said kitchen looking around knowing it would be the last big party in this house, it was a bittersweet thing, people kept on popping in and out talking for a bit then moving on, and there was I reflecting how much this is like life, people coming in and out of your life, some staying longer than others some not too long, some you will miss, and definitely some you won’t. You watch people flirting, people being mean, people laughing and people on the verge of tears, and allthe while I felt disconnected like a well informed spectator watching some docu-drama with a tragi-comic twist, and I said to myself, really this is quaint.
The past year was really as her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II said once, “Annus Horribilis” ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Annus_horribilis ) people ill, people dying, people hurt, people hurting others, and still the wheel turns and still we scampered around thinking we were the most important thing on earth, concerning ourselves with petty nothings, and towards the closing of the year, the ultimate insult was delivered and averted (thank God for that) when the Arabs & Moslems decided to vote against having discrimination upon the grounds of sexual preference in the UNited Nations ratification of the human rights, well thank God saner minds prevailed and the bill was passed with the inclusion of said rights.
